Founded in 1993, the Shandelee Music Festival offers a unique
program dedicated to the specific needs of exceptional pianists.
During the Festival, advanced piano students will study with a
faculty of distinguished artists. Daily interaction with guest
faculty and directors provide students with invaluable
opportunities to discuss concerns and exchange views on all
aspects of music making. Each student is encouraged to broaden
his / her musical awareness and develop technical mastery of
their instrument in an atmosphere that is both inspirational and
creative.
Shandelee is a small township located in the Catskill Mountains.
The Festival grounds are nestled on seventy-five acres of
tranquil natural beauty. The breathtaking mountainside, with its
delicately balanced inlay of streams, ponds and texture of woven
trees all contribute to an exhilarating environment. The
combination of the intense personalized program and the relaxed,
friendly atmosphere makes Shandelee the ideal musical
experience.
Pavilion
A
truly distinctive concert space, the Sunset Concert Pavilion is
where Festival concert events take place. Complete with
theatrical lighting and excellent acoustics, the 200 seat house
provides all that is required to produce first-rate
performances, while preserving an intimate and warm atmosphere.
Adjacent to the hall is a reception breezeway, box office,
artist green room, music library and administrative offices.
Chateau
Students, guest artists, faculty and directors all have the
opportunity to dine together in a relaxed informal atmosphere in
the beautiful French-Norman style Chateau dining room.
Practice Cottages
The
Festival offers four practice cottages located just beyond the
Chateau along the "Twelve Tone Trail". Each cottage is equipped
with a new Steinway grand piano. The cottages are completely
private and are open 7:00 AM - 2:00 AM daily. Additional
practice facilities are available in the Chateau and the
Pavilion.
